Employees of the New York State Department of Health contacted the Rutherford Institute after being denied permission to use a conference room for a Bible study.
Other employee groups were permitted to meet but Christians who wished to study the Bible were warned, ”You must immediately stop holding religious meetings and/or distributing any religious materials in the workplace, even if it is done during lunchtimes. Holding of prayer or religious meetings in workspace of the Department of Health is specifically prohibited.”
The institute’s attorneys contacted the Department of Health and explained their actions constituted illegal religious discrimination. The group has since been allowed use of the conference rooms for Bible studies.
