NewSong shares gospel through song, missions partnerships

For more than 30 years, the Grammy-nominated contemporary group NewSong has been sharing timeless messages of hope and salvation at their concerts.

By partnering with a variety of missions organizations such as World Vision and Holt International, the group has been able to use their platform to meet needs in Jesus’ name and increase awareness about adoption.

“For us, music has always been a tool to promote ministry,” lead singer Russ Lee said. “At our concerts, we want people to know that there is such a sense of hope and future in knowing Christ. Our desire is that God would allow us to take the gifts that He has given us and convey a message that gives people a glimpse of who He is and how wonderful it is to know Him.

“At the end of the day, our goal is that we don’t get in the way of the message. We simply set the table for the truth and reality of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The group has recorded 18 albums and garnered an impressive array of achievements, including 20 No. 1 Christian radio hits and being inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Despite the awards and accolades, the group keeps the spotlight shining on Christ.

Desiring to increase their platform and ability to reach more audiences with the gospel message, NewSong founded the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular featuring a variety of Christian artists in concert together. For the past three years, this highly attended and anticipated tour has ranked as the largest tour in the country — even surpassing tours of secular artists, according to Pollstar Ticket Sales Chart.

While performing concerts across the country, NewSong remains committed to connecting audiences to Christ. Through the years, band members have heard numerous stories about how their music has inspired people to surrender their life to the Lord.

“You never know who is going to walk up to you and say something about how a song has impacted their life,” Lee said. “We’ve heard that some of our songs have encouraged people in the darkest time of their life.

“What we really want to do through our music is to … shine a light of hope that will encourage people, point them in the right direction and let them know that God loves them and wants to rescue them.”

In addition to the Winter Jam Tour, NewSong will kick off a 15-city Very Merry Christmas Tour.

Along with several special guest artists including Audio Adrenaline and Sidewalk Prophets, NewSong will perform selections from their best-selling holiday recordings, “The Christmas Shoes” and “The Christmas Hope,” as well as their upcoming release, “Swallow the Ocean: Christmas Edition,” which will be available through digital retailers.

During concerts, the group explains and emphasizes to audiences about their desperate need for a relationship with Christ, Lee said.

“When we take the stage, we want to share a message about God’s unconditional love for His children and (that) the reason that He pursues us so passionately is because He loves us so completely.”
