Fifteen people representing five associations — Bessemer, North Jefferson, Birmingham, Colbert-Lauderdale and Mud Creek — traveled to Nicaragua Aug. 22–29 to work among the Miskito people.
Led by Howard Brooks, volunteer missions coordinator for Bessemer Baptist Association and a member of Canaan Baptist Church, Bessemer, the team constructed a church building and pastorium in less than four days.
National pastors hosted a revival service each night, and five people were baptized as a result of the nightly services.
The greatest accomplishment for the team was building a church in a place that had never had one before, Brooks said. “They’re going to have a church now and to hear about the Lord,” he added.
