Northport’s Flatwoods celebrates 125 years

It was with a spirit of celebration for generations of ministry that Flatwoods Baptist Church, Northport, marked its 125th anniversary Aug. 28.

Eryn Davis — who grew up in the church — led the congregation out in song. Memorabilia from years of Girls in Action (GAs) and Royal Ambassadors groups showed off the impact the church has had on generations of young people.

And Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon provided a proclamation, which was read by GA leader Jenny Goddard while she stood surrounded by the church’s GAs.

During the celebration, Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, also presented a plaque to the Tuscaloosa Baptist Association church for its years of service. And Pastor Geoff Elrod preached a message challenging the church to keep its focus on Christ as it moves into the future.
