For the first time in more than 20 years, the bell rang out. That church bell hung in the tower of Oak Mountain Baptist Church, Pelham, for years but then was put into storage. But on Sept. 10, Pastor James Blair (pictured) rededicated the bell during the 50th anniversary celebration of the church, saying that it will now ring out every Sunday at the start of morning services.
The celebration service was a “warm and gracious fellowship,” according to Mavis Gates.
Gates participated in the morning service, presenting a plaque to the church on behalf of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission. Keith Brown, church and community ministries director for Shelby Baptist Association, also presented a plaque to the church.
The church also made some presentations of its own. Plaques were presented to J.C. Roden, longtime member and deacon, and in memory of Dorothy Burnett for “her tireless and selfless dedication” to the church.
The worship service was led by The Reunion Singers. To wrap up the celebratory day, Peggy Sue Harding prepared a slideshow of historic photos that was shown during the fellowship lunch. (Peggy Sue Harding contributed)
