Oak Mountain celebrates 50th anniversary

Oak Mountain Baptist Church, Pelham, recently celebrated its 50-year anniversary. Church historian Scott Martin said 85 people attended the celebration and former pastors and members shared stories about the past during the morning service.

Martin compiled a church history and copies were distributed to visitors during the Shelby Baptist Association church’s celebration.

Hugh Richardson, director of missions for Shelby Association, presented the church with a commemorative plaque and Austin and Ron Foster led the congregation in worship and provided special music. A luncheon followed in the fellowship hall.

Ken Phillips, who has served as Oak Mountain Baptist’s pastor for a little more than one year, said members are “excited about what the Lord is doing” through the church.

“We stand on God’s Word of Psalm 127:1 and we are building God’s house one person at a time,” Phillips said, noting that the church has gained more than 20 members in recent months and had several baptisms.
