KHARTOUM, Sudan—Relief workers and civilians near a Sudanese village came under fire on July 29 in attacks that have cost at least 1,000 lives. A Kenyan relief worker was killed, and another kidnapped with two Germans outside the town of Waat, Sudan, after an attack carried out by government-supported militia. The workers were there as part of the relief effort carried out by World Vision, a Christian humanitarian aid organization.
