KHARTOUM, Sudan — A Christian church leader was arrested during an outdoor worship event in Sudan, and another Christian leader is hiding following kidnapping attempts.
Morning Star News reports that Yousif Ayoub Hussein Ali was arrested Feb. 17 for preaching to Muslims. His arrest occurred during an open-air worship time in Ad-Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile state.
Though no law exists to prohibit sharing one’s faith, Ali is accused of preaching to Muslims and inciting religious hatred.
In another report, Morning Star stated evangelist Ahmad Adam Mohamad of North Darfur state went into hiding because Muslim extremists tried to abduct him.
He had been discipling 25 Christian converts from Islam. This angered his relatives, who demanded that he renounce Christianity and return to Islam.
Family members then engaged Muslim extremists to abduct him. He was not at home on the first attempt on Feb. 9 and narrowly escaped a second attempt on Feb. 11, he said.
Sudan is No. 10 on Open Doors’ 2023 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
