The wrapping paper and tape are flying this week at churches across the state while Alabama Baptist church gyms and fellowship halls are turning into receiving centers for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse.
During this week of giving and collection shoeboxes of goodies for the world’s needy children, Baptists have an additional way to drop off their gifts with a twist.
LifeWay Christian Stores has announced plans to assist the ministry in collecting the boxes.
All LifeWay Christian Stores locations, excluding the seminary stores and conference centers, will host an Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection party Nov. 22, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
LifeWay Christian Stores is a division of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian relief and evangelism organization led by Franklin Graham.
LifeWay and Samaritan’s Purse invite participants to drop off shoeboxes filled with new toys, books, school supplies, hard candy, hygiene items and other small necessities for the global outreach. In 2002, Operation Christmas Child collected 6,199,783 shoebox gifts worldwide – 3,606,205 in the United States.
The Alabama Baptist newspaper will have full coverage of Alabama Baptists’ participation in Operation Christmas Child in an upcoming issue.
