Orange Baptist music director retires after 21 years

William “Roy” Dover has retired as music director of Orange Baptist Church, Haleyville, in Franklin Baptist Association after 21 years of service.

Pastor Loyd Griffus and the church honored Dover with a plaque of appreciation.

“He is just a great person who has devoted all these years of his life to the Lord in serving in that capacity,” Griffus said. “I don’t think we could express in words what he has meant to the church. … He’s an inspiration and his help to the church, in my estimation, is immeasurable.”

Dover, a native of Loretta, Tenn., served as a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1942 to 1945. In addition to leading church music, he plays the guitar and fiddle.

Dover and his wife of 62 years, Willie Myree Porter Dover, have five children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
