Painting captures past, funds future ministry

It was for the past and the future that local artist Sharon Owens donated a painting of Beatrice Baptist Church for the church’s 175th anniversary celebration Sept. 25.

It captured history. But it also funded future ministry. The painting was sold in a silent auction, with all the proceeds going to missions.

New pew Bibles also were available for those in attendance to buy in memory or honor of someone, with the funds from that also going to missions.

During the special service, Pastor Mack Elkin shared a brief word, and Toby McPherson read the church history.

Dalton Campbell, an Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative, presented the church with a plaque, and John Marks, director of missions for Pine Barren Baptist Association, presented a certificate.

The congregation also enjoyed a variety of special music from the church choir, the Watson Family and the Beatrice Baptist Quintet (known as BBQ), among others. (Compiled by the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission and TAB)
