LAHORE, Pakistan — A judge in Pakistan has given the death penalty to a man convicted of the 2023 murder of a Christian.
The parents of Farhan Ul Qamar shed tears March 27 when the judge ordered the maximum punishment for their son’s killer, Muhammad Zubair, reports Christian Daily International and Morning Star News.
On Nov. 9, 2023, Zubair killed Ul Qamar during a hate-filled rant against Christians and Jews. Just before murdering Ul Qamar, Zubair accused Ul Qamar and his family of being Jews, relatives told the media outlet.

“The convict is a hardened criminal and was already involved in several cases of a heinous nature,” said Lazar Allah Rakha, the attorney who represented Ul Qamar’s family.
Threats and slurs
Ul Qamar’s father said Zubair spewed threats and slurs at them when the death sentence was announced.
Police provided security to the family inside the courtroom and are protecting them at home in their village in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Ul Qamar’s father said.
Rakha told the news outlet that Alliance Defending Freedom International assisted with the Ul Qamar family’s legal costs in getting justice for their son.
Pakistan is No. 8 on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
