There’s Something Going On
Traditional/Cathedral
The Palmetto State Quartet is rapidly climbing the ranks as one of southern gospel music’s leading quartets — and with this new recording, they’re going to take yet another upward step. This is, by far, the finest release in the quartet’s long and treasured history.
The title song gets the recording off to a foot-tapping, hand-clapping traditional quartet start and the word “radio” is written all over this song. Tony Peace turns in a fine performance of the majestic ballad “When I Saw Jesus” before the quartet picks up the tempo for “That Old Altar.”
Phil Cross’s masterpiece, “the Everlasting Peace,” is next and this has every indication of being a big song for the group.
The next two songs are from days gone by and the Palmetto State Quartet handled the task of presenting these tunes with ease — “Oh My Heart Is Still Rejoicing” and “Roll Away Troubled River.”
“There’s Nothing There” and “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize” keep the tempo in a high gear and then it’s on to mellow sounds of “The Prayer of Yesterday.” Completing the recording is “Yes I Can,” another catchy song that is going to generate several pushes of the repeat button.
