LAHORE, Pakistan — Suspects in the 10-day gang rape of a 17-year-old girl have issued threats against her family to try to get charges dropped, according to the girl’s father.
Media outlets Christian Daily International and Morning Star News, quoting her father, report that the girl was kidnapped Aug. 25 from Chak No. 87 Fateh Colony in Pakistan’s Punjab province while her parents were not at home.
The parents later learned that five Muslims — including one woman — had abducted the daughter, who is Catholic.
The father asked the village council to intervene. The council summoned the accused, who agreed to return the girl but did not, her father said. The father filed a case with police, and the girl was recovered Sept. 5.
Her father said the girl told police that two suspects raped her. A medical examination confirmed multiple rapes and physical torture.
Police arrested one suspect, but others were still free as of Sept. 30, the father told the news sources. He said the suspects have demanded that he take a settlement and drop charges.
