Pastor Gamble to retire after 45 years of ministry

After 45 years of ministry, Robert (Jody) Gamble, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Scottsboro, will retire June 30.

Gamble earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama in Florence and a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He also earned a doctor of ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. 

He served on staff at Highland Baptist Church, Florence, and as pastor of Woodmont Baptist Church, Florence, and First Baptist Church, Sheffield. Gamble also served churches in Texas and Tennessee.

Gamble also served as moderator for Colbert-Lauderdale Baptist Association and was an Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) representative for Colbert-Lauderdale Association in the 1990s. He currently serves as an SBOM representative for Tennessee River Baptist Association and as an Alabama Baptist Executive Committee representative for District 6.

A lover of missions, Gamble served on missions trips to Nigeria, Venezuela, Romania, Portugal, China, Wales and the Dominican Republic, as well as numerous missions trips in the United States.

Gamble and his wife, Wanda, have three children and five grandchildren.
