FORON, Nigeria — Gunmen killed a church pastor and more than 60 other Christians in Plateau state of Nigeria in May.
Setting fire to church buildings and houses in attacks that continued through late May, Fulani Muslim herdsmen killed Luka Gwom, pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations on May 2 in the town of Foron, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA).
A member of the slain pastor’s congregation identified only as Paulina also was killed. A Christian community leader in Foron, Ishaku Pam, confirmed the killing of Gwom, whom he said was his pastor, and said Paulina had gotten married in the church two weeks before.
Muslim herdsmen also launched attacks May 11 in Plateau state’s Riyom LGA. The attacks left seven Christians dead, according to anonymous sources.
In the Barkin Ladi LGA a mass burial took place in Foron on May 4 for 27 Christians killed May 2. Another area source confirmed the deaths.
In two other attacks in the area May 2, 17 Christians were killed in Vat village and 13 other Christians were slain in Zakupang. The victims included women and children.
