Randy Holtz, pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church, Florala, is the new director of missions (DOM) for Sardis Association and will serve in both capacities.
According to Holtz, he is looking forward to “the opportunity to broaden my sphere of influence in ministry” by taking the new position.
“I am excited about the opportunity to minister to a lot more people,” Holtz said.
Because Holtz was serving in the association prior to his status as DOM, he feels he is better prepared to serve.
He will continue to serve as pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church.
“I already knew the churches,” he said, noting he did not blindly approach the position in regard to what needs to be done in the association. He also knows the area and its people.
“Probably the biggest challenge for me personally is balance,” Holtz said. He does not want to “let anything fall short.”
On a ministry level, Holtz faces other challenges.
“I hope to see our association begin being the association we should be — edifying one another and winning others to Jesus Christ,” he said.
Holtz said he wants the 14 churches in the association to function and do what the association should be doing. These goals are a part of the purpose statement:
“Sardis Baptist Association — committed to providing support, training and encouragement to the local church as we serve together as fellow laborers, exalting the Savior, equipping the saints and evangelizing the sinner.”
He is currently a student at Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, Ga. Holtz has also served at Blue Springs Baptist Church, Opp.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Holtz grew up in Florida. He and his wife, Cathy, have three children.
