Being in the good news business, The Alabama Baptist wants to help Baptists from all across the state spread their churches’ good news.
At the state convention’s annual meeting during November in Montgomery, we would like to post good news from every Baptist church in Alabama.
Here’s what we are asking of pastors: Using 25 words or less, tell one or more things that have happened at your church since the beginning of this year that caused rejoicing among your members. Each entry will begin with Good News! and end with To God Be the Glory! (Those words don’t count toward the 25.)
Type or print the words and mail, e-mail or fax it to us by Sept. 30. Mail to: Good News, The Alabama Baptist, 3310 Independence Dr., Birmingham, AL 35209; e-mail to: mail@thealabamabaptist.org or fax to: 205-870-8957.
A few weeks ago, the paper mailed this request to all pastors in the state. We have been receiving interesting and inspiring good news. Alphabetically, responses have ranged all the way from Alabama-Crenshaw Association to Winston Association. A sampling:
– Calvary Baptist Church in Butler Association: Good News! Dorothy Bass was presented a plaque for 25 years of faithful service as pianist, self-taught by climbing in an open church window as a child! To God be the glory!
– Riverview Baptist Church in Pine Barren Association: Good News! Dr. James Best became our pastor and led mission teams throughout Alabama in construction of our new worship center, which will be dedicated in November. To God be the glory!
– Inglenook Baptist Church in Birmingham Association: Good News! Even though we have lost five tithers to death this year, we are still able to meet our budget and keep the doors open. To God be the glory!
Some envelopes were returned to us because of incorrect and unforwardable mailing addresses, so we are making the request again. We want to record a “snapshot” of good news at the turn of the century for each church in the state.
For churches without a pastor, we ask that the deacon chairman, church secretary or church clerk send in their good news.
Just in case some clarification is needed, please indicate who sent the information and provide that person’s daytime phone number.
