For those who may wonder what Biblical hospitality actually looks like in today’s culture, author Amy Hannon said it is less about entertaining and more about finding opportunities to share Christ. Hannon spoke during the Pastors’ Wives and Women in Ministry Conference Monday (June 8) in Orlando.
Hannon, author of “Gather and Give: Sharing God’s Heart Through Everyday Hospitality,” encouraged women to shift from viewing hospitality as putting on a show or presentation to instead a ministry of connection. “A simple invitation for connection,” she noted, can open doors for gospel conversations.

Tara Dew of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Holly Groza of Gateway Baptist Theological Seminary and Brundi Crawford of First Baptist Concord in Knoxville spoke during a panel discussion, focusing on how hospitality should be an expression of God’s faithfulness and a tool for evangelism — and also discipleship. Hospitality, they noted, values relationships over perfection and can be as simple as inviting someone over for dinner.
Attendees also heard from Donna Gaines, widow of former SBC President Steve Gaines, who died March 20. She shared how God had provided strength following her husband’s death. She encouraged attendees to ground their identity in Christ rather than ministry roles.
