Pen pals sought for Chinese students

A Baptist-sponsored pen pal exchange between Chinese and American students gives Christian students in the United States the opportunity to witness.

The National Fellowship of Baptist Educators (NFBE), an auxiliary of the International Mission Board, sponsors an annual exchange of letters where English-written letters from Chinese students and teachers are received by Christian American teachers and students in grades 7 through 12.

Each participant is asked to answer one letter from a Chinese student, then if the Chinese student responds, the two individuals also may continue their correspondence as “pen-friends,” said John Carter, NFBE executive director.

Last year, 2,700 Chinese students sent letters to the organization. The letters arrive during December and early January and individuals or groups may request some of the letters to answer.

The deadline to request letters is Jan. 15. To participate contact John Carter, Samford University, 205-822-4106 or email him at Jtcarter@juno.com.
