Ricky Pollard preached his first sermon as senior pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Centre, on Sept. 22, 1985. On Sept. 26, 2010, a large number of church members and friends came together to honor Pollard for 25 years of service at the Cherokee Baptist Association church.
He was recognized, along with wife Joan and daughter Jordyn, during a celebratory service that included a slideshow of his time with the church, a video skit prepared by the youth and his favorite music performed by the choir and his wife, who sang a solo. A plaque and love offering were presented on behalf of the church. All men who have served as deacons during Pollard’s pastorate also were recognized.
Following the service, a meal was served in the fellowship hall. A wall was decorated with pictures, handprints and drawings done by the preschool and children’s classes.
Pine Grove Baptist has experienced immense growth during Pollard’s tenure as pastor. When he became pastor, there were 365 members; today there are 948. There have been 545 baptisms under his leadership.
