Charles W. Powell, associate pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, Jasper, died Aug. 19. He was 83.
“Charlie Powell was an outstanding follower of Christ and a faithful servant,” Senior Pastor Dennis Culbreth said. “He had a heart for people and continued to witness for Christ until his death.”
Powell came to the Walker Baptist Association church in 1970 to serve as minister of education and later served as associate pastor for senior adults. He retired in 2000 and was named associate pastor emeritus in June 2011 during a special Charles W. Powell Day church service.
Powell was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Miles Powell, and son, Charles W. “Chuck” Powell II.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Joyce; one daughter; one granddaughter; and four stepchildren. (TAB)
