Prattville attorney Melissa Bowen has been named a consultant for women’s missions and ministries with the Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU).
The Birmingham native will be responsible for developing and coordinating the work of Women on Mission, Women’s Ministry and other groups of women in Alabama Baptist churches involved in local and global missions and ministries. She also is responsible for the work of Adults on Mission, the WMU organizational option for women and men ages 18 and older.
“I want to help all women and men discover their God-given gifts and help them serve the needs of their churches and communities,” Bowen said.
A member of First Baptist Church, Prattville, for 19 years, Bowen has been an active member of Women on Mission, a leader of Baptist Young Women and a church and association director for Mission Friends.
“We are excited to have a woman of Melissa’s expertise representing us in both WMU and Women’s Ministry,” said Beverly Miller, executive director of WMU.
Bowen is a cum laude graduate of the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University with a juris doctor degree. She earned a bachelor of arts degree with honors in political science (pre-law curriculum) at Auburn University.
Before entering her full-time private practice of law in March 1993, she served as assistant attorney general for Alabama, assistant counsel for Alabama Department of Revenue and as a law clerk to C.C. Torbert Jr., chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.
