Prayer for students a ‘necessity’

Prayer for students a ‘necessity’

"It’s not just a privilege, it’s a necessity.”

Praying for students in the state is important to Gov. Robert Bentley, which is why he proclaimed March 27 the 10th annual Day of Prayer Over Students Across Alabama.

Every year thousands of adults participate in the prayer emphasis coordinated by First Priority of Alabama.

Matthew Wilson, First Priority Greater Birmingham executive director, said, “Students live in a tough world. Each day students are subjected to literally thousands of offensive images and words … and enormous amounts of peer pressure. Without prayer these students will not be able to stand against the insurmountable odds they will face.”

Participants also spend time in prayer for teachers, school administrators and support staff.

First Priority suggests that Day of Prayer participants:

  • Turn school zones into prayer zones by praying over schools every time they pass by them.
  • Have churches host prayer chains so members can pray continuously during school hours.
  • Contact principals of local schools to let them know they are being prayed for.
