Prayer Support

I saw in a recent issue of The Alabama Baptist the cartoon where a child was speaking to a friend and said, “Grandpa says our new president is a Bush and if we pray for him he may become a mighty oak.”

There is a lot of truth in that statement. Our president indeed needs our prayers.

Our country was founded on biblical principles. Documents penned by our forefathers attest to their beliefs in a sovereign God and their trust in Him. Our coins are minted with the words “In God We Trust,” as is our printed currency. Unfortunately, those elected to positions of leadership do not always behave in a manner proclaiming that belief.

Do you ever wonder what God thinks of us today as a nation? Psalm 33:12 tells us, “Blessed is the nation whose God is Lord.” In Proverbs, 14:34 we read, “Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a disgrace to any people.” Again to Proverbs 11:14, “For lack of guidance a nation falls.” The guidance this nation received during the past eight years has not been one of righteousness.

With proper care, the bushes planted in our yards thrive and grow. The same can happen to the Bush in the White House. Let us remember to pray daily for God to give him wisdom to lead according to God’s plan for this nation.
