Prayer walk continues for Alabama Acteen

Sara Neville of Hepzibah Baptist Church in Talladega had never actually prayer walked until she attended the National Acteens Convention (NAC) in Nashville July 29–Aug. 1. But NAC gave her that opportunity.

“The prayer walk to the state Capitol was my favorite part,” she said without taking a second thought. “It was so touching to pray for people you didn’t even know and see all the girls walking together.”

Neville was referring to the prayer walk July 30 from the Nashville Convention Center to the Tennessee State Capitol led by the more than 6,500 NAC participants. They gathered at the convention center to learn about prayer walking from Megan Vansant, an Alabama Acteens Activator and Activator Abroad who has prayer walked in Alabama, Charleston, S.C., and Paris, France.

The girls and their leaders prayed for Nashville, its leadership and the police who had stopped traffic to allow the group to pass. Several groups also stopped to pray at landmarks. One group prayed with a homeless man and then gave him the snacks they had in their bags.

When the girls arrived at the Capitol, they were greeted by Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell and then sang several praise songs, heard from a missionary and prayed for the state, country and world.

But Neville’s prayer walk didn’t stop in Nashville. On Saturday, after returning from NAC, Neville met her pastor at a local school to prayer walk it before the school year began.

The two prayed in the school parking lot and then left, but Neville says, “God just told me to keep praying.”

The high school senior turned her car around and went back to the school.

“I just drove around the school and prayed for the students, the teachers, the playground and even the building,” she said.

“I think I know a couple of people from my church who work at the school so I prayed for them, too.”
