Redan Baptist Church, Holly Pond, celebrated its 100th anniversary June 2 during a 10 a.m. worship service.
To mark the special day, a brush arbor was constructed on the church’s property. The brush arbor — set up behind the church building for attendees to visit — was a recreation of the arbor Redan Baptist church members initially met under during its early years.
According to Helen Smith, chairperson for the anniversary planning committee, the East Cullman Baptist Association church’s service featured special music and a welcome by Pastor Michael King.
Randy Makemson, director of missions for East Cullman Association, was in attendance, and a plaque was given to the church on behalf of the association. In addition, Nancy Beasley, representative from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented Redan with a plaque commemorating its 100 years of ministry.
DeJuan Reese, a former Redan pastor, and several other ministers who were ordained at the church each spoke to the congregation.
King estimated that between 125–150 people were in attendance for the special day.
“We have just started an outreach ministry,” he said. “My vision is … to see the church grow. That’s every pastor’s vision but I want it to grow spiritually most of all.”
