BIBB ASSOCIATION
On March 17 former and current members of Rehobeth Baptist Church, Lawley, gathered in honor of an anniversary that almost never happened. More than 13 years after the 2006 church burnings in Bibb County, Rehobeth Baptist — one of the churches affected by the fires — celebrated its bicentennial anniversary.
Former associate pastor Johnny Mount and former church members shared their favorite memories. Pastor Kirk Smith welcomed the congregation and closed the service.
Church member Linda Barton shared the church history, and Emily Green Burdick and Stewart Creel sang solos. Former member Felicia Creel Olson was the guest pianist.
Lonette Berg, from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, and Lee Wright, with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, presented certificates to the church. Bill Russell, director of missions for Bibb Baptist Association, brought congratulations from the association.
Photos and memorabilia from the military, weddings, Sunday School and Woman’s Missionary Union were on display. The church cookbook was available for sale. Dishes prepared from the cookbook were part of lunch.
“Everything was bathed in prayer,” Barton said. “God paved the way and gave us a wonderful day. He gets all the glory.”
