KAMPALA, Uganda — A pastor to Christian converts was killed in March by some of his relatives because he would not return to Islam.
Pastor Adinani Bulwa — age 42 and a father of five — was killed March 10 in Muterere village in Uganda’s Bugiri District. His wife, Zabiina Newumbwe, told Morning Star News that Muslim relatives forcibly took him from home and killed him.
She said her husband’s preaching to family members had resulted in four relatives putting faith in Jesus Christ in February. The pastor’s older brother warned Bulwa to stop trying to convert Muslims to Christianity.
When Bulwa’s relatives demanded that he renounce his Christian faith, Bulwa said “he was ready to die for Christ’s sake,” his wife recounted. On March 10, the relatives killed him.
His wife has been threatened with death if she reveals the identities of the killers.
Bulwa, a Christian since 2019, served as a pastor to a group of Christian converts who gathered secretly.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
