LONDON, England — A new study has found that religious social programs provide millions in aid but go largely unnoticed by the government. The BBC reports that new research carried out in east England by a group called Faith in Action found that social programs led by religious institutions cover a wide range of societal problems that are neglected by secular or governmental bodies.
One church official estimated that if the government were to take over social programs currently run by churches, mosques, synagogues and other religious institutions, it would cost English taxpayers millions of dollars.
