Retired Cahaba DOM Porch dies
Retired Cahaba Association director of missions (DOM) and longtime Judson professor Quentin Porch died April 20. He was 85.
Porch, a native of Arab, earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a master of theology degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He earned a second master’s degree from the University of Alabama. He served as pastor of several Alabama Baptist churches, including churches in Coffeeville, Gordo, Bessemer, Tuscaloosa and Selma.
In addition to pastoral work, Porch taught history for 17 years at Judson College. He also served on the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission for some 25 years, chairing that commission from 1980 until 1983.
Porch retired after more than 12 years as Cahaba DOM in 1983 in order to spend nine months doing missions work in the Philippines. He also served in several interim pastorates upon his return to Alabama. At the time of his death, he lived in Millbrook with Lee, his wife of 62 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Prattville.
Porch is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
