Joel Max Jackson, former Coffee Baptist Association director of missions (DOM) and retired pastor, died April 29. He was 79.
A graduate of Baptist Bible Institute (now The Baptist College of Florida) in Graceville, Jackson served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1965.
He served as pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Enterprise; Grantswood (formerly New Hope) Baptist Church, Birmingham; and Springfield Baptist Church, Jakin, Georgia. In addition to serving as DOM for Coffee Association, Jackson also served as moderator for St. Clair Baptist Association. In retirement he served as interim pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Odenville; First Baptist Church, Rainbow City; and Riddles Bend Baptist Church, Rainbow City.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen; four children; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
