Retired pastor Sheppard dies

Longtime Alabama pastor Edward Sheppard died Nov. 10. He was 80.

A native of Lucedale, Miss., Sheppard served numerous Alabama churches for 51 years as pastor and interim pastor, including First Baptist Church of McIntosh, where he was serving as full-time pastor at the time of his death.

A master craftsman, Sheppard led the church through a new building project during his five years as pastor there, said Paul Kendrick, director of missions for Washington Association.

“Just about everywhere he went, he was a builder,” Kendrick said of the pastor’s spiritual and physical ministry. “He was a wonderful man, and he didn’t let age hold him back.”

Sheppard earned degrees from Mobile College and New Orleans Seminary. He is survived by Mamie Sheppard, his wife of 62 years; two sons; two daughters; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
