Sadie (Thadine) Roberts is an inspiration to many people. After beating breast cancer three years ago, the cancer returned. Yet Roberts still sings in the church choir, leads a Sunday School class, participates in Women on Mission and services on the health ministry committee, among other activities at First Baptist Church, Athens. Recently she led a Bible study seminar to help cancer patients and their families deal with the illness.
Q: What keeps you going?
A: Knowing who I am in Christ Jesus. Knowing that people are praying for me every day. Knowing that everything is in God’s hand and whatever happens, as long as God is glorified, it doesn’t matter.
I just put one foot in front of the other. I don’t take identification with the illness. I identify with Christ.
This body of mine that I have to be in on earth may have cancer but it’s not me. It’s the body I’m in, but that’s not where I find my identity. My identity is in Christ Jesus.
Q: How do you do it?
A: The Lord does everything. I can do everything through Christ. I try to stay in the Word and prayed up.
Q: How do your family members support you?
A: All the kids call me every day. My husband has been right there next to me with all of my treatments. I know they are all on my team to do anything I need and encourage me.
Q: Do you plan to lead another seminar?
A: If I have the opportunity, I will.
