Roy Cordle retires after 41 years in ministry

Roy L. Cordle has retired from the ministry after 41 years. Most recently, Cordle was pastor of Riddles Bend Baptist Church, Rainbow City, in Etowah Baptist Association, serving there for nearly seven years. "I think the thing I’ll miss the most is the close contact I had with church members and the everyday activities and events of their lives," he said. The church presented Cordle with a tea in honor of his retirement, which was attended by former deacons, friends and other pastors.

Cordle is spending his retirement putting together a book on his thoughts on the Book of Revelation and hopes to have it finished later this year. In addition to Riddles Bend, he served as pastor of one other Etowah Association church, five Calhoun Baptist Association churches, one Dale Baptist Association church and churches in Mississippi and Florida. Cordle also served six years on the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions and is currently serving a second year as moderator of Etowah Association.

He received his master of ministry, doctor of ministry and doctor of theology degrees from Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, Ga. Cordle received his bachelor of arts from William Carey College (now William Carey University) in Hattiesburg, Miss., and bachelor of ministry from Florida Baptist Theological College (now the Baptist College of Florida) in Graceville, Fla.

He and his wife, Joan, have one adult daughter.

Cordle, who now lives in Anniston, will be available for bivocational or interim pastorates, to supply preach, to lead January Bible studies and to preach revivals. To contact him, call 256-835-0425.
