Salem-Troy Association on mission

John Gunter, missionary with the Southeast Alabama Baptist Hispanic Ministry Coalition, led a team of seven people — representing five churches in Birmingham, Columbia and Salem-Troy Baptist associations — on a missions trip to the Dominican Republic Feb. 2–9.

Gunter lived in the Dominican Republic for eight years and said he wanted to return to the churches he helped build, like the apostle Paul, and encourage the Christians there.

The team conducted conferences, passed out shoeboxes as part of Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation Christmas Child and Bibles and held a street meeting during which the gospel and a movie were presented.

More than 40 people made professions of faith.
