LONDON—The Salvation Army announced Sept. 6 that it has elected a new head of the denomination. John Larsson of Sweden was chosen as the 17th General of the Salvation Army by an 87-member multinational council. Currently chief of staff of the three-million member Christian denomination known for its social and charitable work, Larrson will succeed General John Gowans in November. After his election, Larsson told fellow council members. “I want to dedicate every day, every hour, every power to advance the Lord’s work through the army.”
