An Alabama Baptist university is noted among the best colleges and universities in the nation in the special report on “America’s Best Colleges for 2005” in U.S. News and World Report.
Appearing in the Aug. 30 issue of the magazine, the list ranks Samford University fifth in the South in the Best Universities — Master’s category. The school has ranked among the top seven colleges in this category for the last 15 years. It is the largest category and is divided into four geographic regions.
The master’s category includes schools offering a full range of undergraduate and masters programs and some programs leading to doctorates. Fifteen programs are at the master’s and doctoral levels among Samford’s 23 degree programs offered.
Also making the list were the University of Alabama (UA) and Auburn University (AU). Both schools placed among the Top 50 Public National Universities, with UA coming in 39th and AU 42nd.
On the list of the nation’s 115 Best National Universities, UA ranked 86th and AU ranked 90th.
Earning a spot on the Best Liberal Arts Colleges in America was Birmingham-Southern at 70th out of 110 colleges.
The rankings are based on a school’s academic reputation, freshman retention rates, faculty resources, class size, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
