The 8-year-old daughter of a Samford University assistant professor is among those who lost their lives in a flash flood July 4 at Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas.
Sarah Marsh — daughter of Patrick Marsh, an assistant professor in Samford’s school of health professions’ department of kinesiology — was “among those who perished,” according to an email Samford President Beck Taylor sent to the Samford community July 5.
As many as 27 girls were missing after 15 inches of rain caused the Guadalupe River to rise to record levels and sweep through Camp Mystic, a nondenominational Christian girls camp. Some campers were rescued and others were found dead, and the search continues for those still missing.
Taylor said Samford was working to “ensure that every effort is made” to support the Marsh family and asked for prayer for Marsh, his wife Jill, son John and other family members and friends.
