Samford University will observe homecoming Oct. 26-28.
Pre-homecoming activities begin Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. with a parade through downtown Homewood celebrating Homewood’s 75th anniversary and Samford 160th anniversary.
Activities planned for Oct. 26 include:
Dedication of Samford’s new science center 5-8 p.m. Kathie Olsen, chief scientist with NASA, will speak at 5 p.m., along with tours of the planetarium and conservatory.
Better Than Ezra will perform at 9 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Wright Center Concert Hall.
Events throughout the day Saturday, Oct. 27, include a breakfast for alumni from the Class of 1951, a children’s carnival and open house for the science center. Among the other activities scheduled for Oct. 27 are:
“Live at the Library” at 10 a.m., featuring Samford graduate Margaret Armbrester, editor of “Alabama Governors: a Political History of the State,” and former governor and current Samford professor Albert Brewer.
Barbeque lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. football game against the University of Tennessee-Martin, featuring presentation of the alumni of the year and the homecoming court at halftime.
Metro College reunion at 4:30 p.m. in Dwight Beeson Hall lobby.
Class of 1951 golden reunion dinner at 6 p.m.
Activities Oct. 28 include:
Fellowship breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by worship at 9:30 a.m. in Beeson Divinity Chapel. William Hull, Class of 1951, university professor and former Samford provost, will deliver the sermon.
A service of gratitude will be held at Ruhama Baptist Church Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m.
All events are free except the barbeque lunch, golden reunion dinner, concert and football game.
