SBC Executive Committee increases funding for investigation, appoints presidential search committee

The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee addressed several business issues in the second day of its Feb. 21–22 meeting in Nashville.

The Executive Committee approved a budget increase for the investigation into the EC’s handling of sexual abuse cases. EC members approved increasing the original estimate of $500,000 in legal fees for the the EC and $1.6 million in legal fees for the Sexual Abuse Task Force to $2 million for each — a total of $4 million. The funds will come out of the EC’s financial reserves.

The EC also named a seven-member presidential search committee to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Ronnie Floyd last October.
