Spencer Bell has been elected as an associate in the office of evangelism and church revitalization by the executive committee of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
Bell currently serves as pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hartselle, and he told his church Oct. 12 that during the summer, he began to feel God moving him toward a new season of ministry.
“I’m very humbled, I’m very grateful to Dr. Lance and to the executive committee and to all of those who felt this was the Lord’s will,” he said. “I consider it an extension of the very heart of ministry that we have shared together here to help churches and pastors grow in health and mission and gospel impact.”
‘Keen understanding’
Rick Lance, SBOM executive director, said the State Board welcomes Bell “with joy and enthusiasm.”
“Spencer is among the most gifted young ministers I know,” Lance said. “He has served with effectiveness as a pastor and as an evangelist. … He brings to this ministry a keen understanding of the need to reach people for Christ and to help them become fully devoted disciples.”
Lance said Bell’s service in this new role matches his current experience, as he’s “led a true revitalization effort in his church” and “the church grew in every measurable way, including baptisms, personal spiritual development of the membership as well as the congregation’s financial health.”
He is also “a champion for the Cooperative Program,” Lance said, “having led his church to practice giving 10 percent through this vital missional channel. He is also deeply committed to Alabama Baptists and to Southern Baptists.”
‘A heart for the local church’
Not only that, Bell is an “outstanding preacher of the Word” who “loves expository preaching,” as well as a gifted singer who loves the music ministry of the church, Lance said.
“Alabama Baptists will love getting to know Spencer Bell,” he said. “He is one of us.”
Rob Jackson, director of the SBOM office of evangelism and church revitalization, said Bell “brings a passion for evangelism and a heart for the local church.”
“His dedication and energy will make him an asset to the SBOM family,” Jackson said.
