SBOM’s Chris Mills moves to collegiate, student ministries

Chris Mills is changing offices at the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM). The associate in communications services will be an associate in the office of collegiate and student ministries, effective Dec. 1.

In his current role, Mills serves as the Web minister for www.alsbom.org, www.sbdr.org and www.greatcommissiongps.com; handles social media for the SBOM; and facilitates training and consulting in Web design for Alabama Baptist churches. In his new role, he will be responsible for student missions, international student ministry, community college ministry, state student/collegiate event planning and social media/technology.

“It brings me great joy to see students ‘get’ missions,” Mills said. “Obedience is something we, as followers, of Christ seek to do daily. A lot of times, God uses missions opportunities to open our eyes to what daily obedience looks like.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to walk alongside students seeking to take that journey. I’m excited about working toward reaching the nations that God has brought to our campuses.”

Doug Rogers, coordinator of communications services, has seen Mills’ enthusiasm in action.

“Chris came to the state board at a time when we needed to focus attention on our website and social media efforts, and he tackled the task with expertise and enthusiasm,” Rogers said. “His contribution to how we communicate our story has been both timely and far-reaching, and I’m grateful for not only his ministry but his heart for missions.”

Mike Nuss, director of the office of collegiate and student ministries, has noticed Mills’ missions-mindedness, too.

“We are incredibly excited to have someone with Chris’ passion for missions and connecting students to missions opportunities around the world joining the SBOM collegiate and student ministries team. His missions experience, along with his heart for international students and BCM (Baptist Campus Ministries) background, makes him a great fit for his new assignment at the State Board of Missions,” Nuss said.

A Greenville native, Mills holds a bachelor’s degree from Troy University, where he was active in the BCM, even serving as president. He will graduate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a master of divinity in December.

Mills is a member of First Baptist Church, Montgomery. He is a deacon and international ministry Sunday School teacher. He will marry Brooke Fussell on June 9.

In other changes in the collegiate and student ministries office, associate Keith Loomis will assume responsibility for youth ministry and evangelism training, the Youth Evangelism Conference and Super Summer Alabama.  (TAB)
