Steve Scoggins is someone you should know. Not only does he serve on The Alabama Baptist board of directors, but he is also the pastor of First Baptist Church, Opelika.
Q: Why do you serve in these roles?
A: Jesus changed my life, and I just wanted other people to get to know Him.
Q: What does the ministry require of you?
A: Everything we do is to lift up Jesus and love people. So, I spend my time talking to people about Jesus and meeting people’s needs.
Q: What do you get from it?
A: I consider the ministry to be a great adventure, unbelievable. I’m having a ball.
Q: How do other family members support you?
A: Well, I have an extraordinary wife who is gifted in music and loves working with singles. So, I couldn’t do without her.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I intend to die preaching. I was ordained in 1975 while I was a Samford student. I love being a pastor. I can’t perceive doing anything else. I plan to serve as pastor until the day I die.
