It was like being in a “spiritual man cave,” Director of Missions Tom Stacey said of Selma Baptist Association’s Drawing Men to Jesus rally. The rally, held May 11 at Northside Baptist Church, Selma, had a twofold purpose, he said — to draw men to Christ and to encourage Christian men to get involved in Kingdom work. “For the believer, it’s a time of worship and encouragement and it’s an opportunity to reach other guys who aren’t already plugged in,” Stacey said.
Prior to the rally, the association served a hot dog and hamburger meal to the approximately 125 attendees. The rally featured four ministry booths: Bikers for Christ, Alabama Teen Challenge, Fishers of Men ministry of Tuscaloosa and Alabama Baptist disaster relief.
“(We wanted) something that would interest guys — not traditional — that they could be involved in that would be ministry,” Stacey said.
In addition to the booths, the rally featured the Master’s Hand Men’s Ensemble from Linden Baptist Church in Bethel Baptist Association and Mel Johnson, state disaster relief strategist, as guest speaker.
“I think the Holy Spirit really moved … and we were challenged,” said Will Langston, men’s ministry director for Selma Association, who organized the event.
With at least one profession of faith and about 15 churches involved, the rally was a huge success, Stacey said. “It encourages me when men are taking spiritual leadership and when they have a hunger for God.”
