Q: What led you to participate in the space program?
A: I’ve been a fan of the space program since I was in fifth grade because we have gotten so much out of it in our daily lives to help with weather prediction, medicine and communication.
Q: What did this demand?
A: We had to write eight essays, develop a project that we had to do when we were on the shuttle and do an autobiography. Maybe three months before we went through the oral process and simulation, I rode my bicycle about five miles before school and walked about two to three miles after school. I wanted to be in good shape.
Q: What did you get from the experience?
A: I learned a lot more about aerospace and science and made many lifelong friends. I gained a greater appreciation for the accomplishments of the United States and the American people. I was encouraged to continue broadening my horizons.
Q: How did family members support you?
A: They were pleased and they knew that I really wanted to do it. They were supportive.
Q: What difference will this experience make for you in the future?
A: I think it will be expanding my body of knowledge and being able to make a contribution to my country.
