Signature sound quartet

Stand by Me
Traditional/Cathedral

When word was first heard about Ernie Haase and Garry Jones’ formation of a new quartet, everyone’s ears perked up. And then when the personnel lineup was finally announced, eyebrows raised. Immediately, people in the southern gospel music community realized the potential that this quartet would possess, and thus the waiting for the first recording and appearances began.

To make a long story short, southern gospel music has another great quartet to add to its roster. Ernie and Garry, along with Shane Dunlap (lead), Doug Anderson (baritone) and Tim Duncan (bass), have put together a quartet that is turning heads everywhere. And while “Stand by Me” is exceptional, it’s only a mere beginning of what Signature Sound is capable of doing.

“Stand by Me” is loaded with great songs that range from classic quartet to newer songs with just a slight modern edge. For those who want the handclapping, toe-tapping songs, check out “Singin’ over Yonder,” “Old Time Christian Way” (the first radio release), “I Can’t Wait for Heaven,” “Stand by Me,” “City Built Four Square” and “Let’s Talk About Jesus … Amen.” For those who prefer to coast a bit, seek out “Calvary Answers for Me” (a big, big hit just waiting to happen), “I Have Seen the Lord,” “The God of Today” and “He Is There.”

Finally, there’s a special song that’s a must for everyone: the quartet lends their voices to back up the legendary George Younce on “Sometimes This Is Heaven to Me.” Make room for the chill bumps.

If you’ve not already purchased a copy of “Stand by Me” make sure you do that soon. Someday you’ll be able to say that you had the first recording of a classic quartet.
