Sisters Who Care WMU conference set for Birmingham

National Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) is sponsoring the Sisters Who Care national conference in Birmingham Feb. 10–12.

“This conference is the only national event specifically for African-American women involved in Baptist churches,” said Debra Berry, adult ministry consultant for national WMU.

As a part of WMU, Sisters Who Care seeks to unite, encourage and empower black women to grow in their passion for sharing the love of Christ.

The conference’s theme will be Understanding Our Past … Transforming Our Future with a focus on the Great Commission.

The event begins at the national WMU headquarters with a tour of the building.

The tour will feature the highlights and rich heritage of Baptist missions work over the past 118 years as well as artifacts and artwork from all over the world.

A Remember Africa welcome reception will follow at the Sheraton Birmingham hotel. The weekend will include an opportunity to tour the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the historic Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Those attending may also participate in a hands-on ministry activity at Kelly Ingram Park.
