Six Alabamians appointed to mission service by NAMB

Grace and John McGraw, John and Cindy Thomas and Don and Pam Smith were recently appointed to mission service by the North American Mission Board. The McGraws and Thomases already serve in Alabama. The Smiths, natives of Alabama, serve in California.

Grace and John McGraw serve in church and community ministries in Birmingham. Grace McGraw is director of missionary/volunteer mobilization for M-Power Ministries with Birmingham Baptist Association. She coordinates Mission Service Corps missionaries and the literacy program for the association.

A graduate of Samford University, she was formerly a teacher in Columbiana and Vestavia Hills. John McGraw, a graduate of Samford University, works with Mutual Assurance Inc. in Birmingham. The couple has two children, Tara and Melissa.

John and Cindy Thomas serve in church and community ministries in Anniston. John Thomas is associational ministry evangelism director for Calhoun Baptist Association.

A native of Wetumpka, he is a graduate of the Baptist College of Florida (formerly Florida Baptist Theological College) in Graceville and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He has served on several church staffs in Alabama and Georgia including Hodgesville Baptist Church, Rehobeth Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church, all in Dothan. He came to Calhoun Association from Western Heights Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga., where he served as minister of education 1999–2001.

Cindy Thomas, a native of Hanover, Pa., is a graduate of the Baptist College of Florida. She has served as a TeamKid consultant for LifeWay Christian Resources and as a volunteer with the Assist and Alert Teams of the Columbia Association in Dothan. The Thomases have three children — Adam, Krystal and Michael.

Don and Pam Smith serve in associational missions in Visalia, Calif. Don Smith, a native of Jasper, is director of missions for Sequoia Baptist Association.

He previously served as pastor of Five Corners Baptist Church in Vancouver, Wash. He began as pastor of that congregation in 1988 after serving as pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Shelton, Wash., 1981–1988. He has also served on the staff of First Baptist Church, Hoover, and Good Shepherd Mission and Liberty Baptist Church, both in Dallas.

He is a graduate of Criswell Bible College in Dallas and attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif.

Pam Smith is a native of Carbon Hill and a graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She plans to be a homemaker. The couple have three children — Joshua, Caleb and Zechariah.  (NAMB)
