Andrew Smith, who served for 15 years at the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM), died Jan. 29. He was 82.
Smith earned an associate’s degree from Samford University in Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He began his time at SBOM as a general leader associate in the office of Sunday School and discipleship from 1986 to 1995. From 1996 to 2001, Smith was the director of the same office.
Smith also served as pastor of several Alabama Baptist churches including Five Points Baptist Church, Northport; Heritage Baptist Church, Montgomery; and Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Cullman. During his ministry he also served as the moderator for Montgomery Baptist Association.
Smith was a member of Vaughn Forest Baptist Church, Montgomery, at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace. He is survived by three children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
